Σχετικά

Throughout the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods the state of Venice developed and sustained a musical culture that was unparalleled in Europe. The San Marco Basilica, with its spectacular architecture that included unique opposing choir lofts, was at the centre of the creation of brilliant new works for multiple choirs and instruments that employed both new harmonies and striking stereophonic effects.

None took advantage of this more skilfully than Giovanni Gabrieli, principal organist and composer at San Marco from 1585, who compiled two immense volumes of his liturgical music entitled the Sacrae Symphoniae that were published after his death in 1612.

This concert includes some of the greatest works from the two volumes, including Plaudite Omnis Terra, In Ecclesiis, Canzon Primi Toni, Beate Virgo a6, Surrexit Christus and Gloria, performed in the extraordinary resonance of St George’s Bloomsbury.
